Behold the thirteenth sermon of the Voice!

A number charged with symbolism, superstition and fatality. The thirteenth letter in the Hebrew alphabet is Mem, which is also the first letter of the word Met (מת), which means death. Same goes for the French alphabet. XIII is the Nameless Arcana in the Tarot of Marseille and it represents the Grim Reaper, a popular personification of Death. But those familiar with the Tarot know that the Nameless Arcana also means to cast out old patterns and start afresh, which can be interpreted as rebirth and new beginnings. XIII is an arcanum without a name, which brings it closer to Mat, which is an arcanum without a number and it sits at the very beginning of the deck. Mat also means dead/defeated in Arabic/Persian, like in checkmate.
